This workshop connects the vital intersections of community ownership, cultural heritage preservation, and placekeeping, sharing frameworks for long-term placemaking in cultural & commercial districts. Drawing from SBAN's year of research and recent case studies, we’ll explore successful models of community ownership, shared governance, and anti-displacement policies. Informed by recent examples and lessons learned, participants will engage in small group work to apply SBAN’s toolkit to local projects. Designed for place-based nonprofits, and community organizations, this session will equip attendees with actionable strategies for preserving commercial spaces in the face of displacement pressures and fostering community control.
